Manhattan speakeasy

Regent Singapore’s new speakeasy bar Manhattan has opened

Hotel bars and lounges tend to have reputation for being boring but not the Manhattan located in the Regent Singapore.

Inspired by the 19th Century’s Golden Age of cocktails and fine drinking, this gothic and spicy bar will transport you back into the Prohibition Era of the USA.

From the Barrel

The bar contains the world’s first in-hotel rick-house for the head bartender, Ricky Paivo. The rick-house features over a hundred American oak barrels from a small cooperage in Minnesota, and is used to finish whiskies and other delicacies.

It is also used to age bitters and single-cask cocktails. Guests can savour a rotating “From the Rickhouse” section when the delicious drinks are ready.

There is also an apothecary of sorts filled with jars containing different types of pickles and rare ingredients such as wild cherry bark, shisandra berries, and dandelion root. Two private spaces are also available, and one of the rooms has an impressive amount of Czech crystal ware on display.

Apart from the impressive décor, the drinks feature 25 seasonal cocktails that are inspired by the history of Manhattan’s neighbourhoods, from Wall Street to Spanish Harlem. Personally, I loved the Eighth Ward, for $24, the best.

Eighth Ward contains High West Campfire Whiskey, Sangue Morlacco, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, and Ferrand dry curacao. The entire thing is topped with a cinnamon stick and orange peel. After a long day, there’s no better way to wind down than with this drink.

For those who prefer a less biting option, the Princess Cut for $23 is for you! It has G’Vine Floraison Gin, June fleur de vigne liqueur, house-made hibiscus syrup, fresh lemon, rosewater, and champagne. This mixture is served in a pretty, thin crystal glass. It’s not the most masculine drink, but we won’t judge you if you order one!

Besides the cocktails, this bar has amazing food. You definitely won’t want to miss the Rebellion Burger for $20 and the Maine Lobster Roll for $26. The lobster dish is a carb-free roulade version of the traditional meal.

So make like Jay Gatsby with this new addition to the night scene. You won’t regret it!
