Some of the drinks we’ve tried that you can look out for at Beerfest Asia 2015

It’s hard to believe that Beerfest Asia was started seven years ago as it’s still the premier beer event of the year in Singapore.

Whether you’re a beer-lover or you like to look out for interesting alcoholic beverages, here’s a sneak peek of a few interesting or unique ones that you can look out for at Beerfest Asia 2015.

Iron Maiden Trooper – UK

The Iron Maiden Trooper is a premium British beer inspired by heavy metal band Iron Maiden and crafted by Robinsons Brewery. Being a real ale enthusiast, vocalist Bruce Dickinson has developed a beer with a depth of character.

The Trooper has a malty and fruity smell, and it tastes a little strong.

Thought: Interesting but not that spectacular, unless you’re an Iron Maiden or heavy metal fan.

Alcoholic Content: 4.7%

Exhibitor: East of Avalon Wines

Pilsner Urquell – Czech Republic

First produced in Plzen, Czech Republic, in 1842, Pilsner Urquell is the world’s first golden beer or pilsner lager. Its smell and taste has some similarity to an India Pale Ale (IPA), with light bitterness.

Thought: Good for a night out at a gathering.

Alcoholic Content: 4.4%

Exhibitor: Sabmiller / 6DM (S) (Pte Ltd)

ABK Dunkles Weizen – Germany

ABK Dunkles Weizen Steingadener has the characteristics and flavours of wheat ale with a hint of roasted flavours. Its smell is somewhat grainy and its taste is slightly sourish, not as sweet as usual weizen.

Thought: While not fantastic, it tastes interesting and has a good head of foam, and you should try it as it’s new in Singapore and only available at Beerfest Asia.

Alcoholic Content: 5.1%

Exhibitor: Wunderbar LLP

Flensburger Weizen – Germany

This fresh and cloudy wheat beer has a clear wheat taste that’s quite sweet and very refreshing. There is also a fruity characteristic in its smell and taste.

The Flensburger Weizen has quite a foamy and creamy head, and gave off a healthy pop as we opened the bottle. It’s new to Singapore and Beerfest Asia.

Thought: With strong characteristic flavours and being easy to drink, the Flensburger Weizen is great as a happy hour beer at the end of a long day, or simply for taking a break. It’s possibly the best among the six beers we tasted.

Alcoholic Content: 5.1%

Exhibitor: Chaoying Company

Beerfest Asia 2015 will be held at the Marina Promenade from Jun 25 to 28. Tickets from $20 at sistic.com.sg.
