12 Breakfasts That Are (Probably) Healthier Than Nasi Lemak

Wondering what to eat for breakfast?

Food review on Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa

Would you consider nasi lemak a healthy breakfast?

Last week, Singaporeans everywhere sighed with happiness as they ordered a second helping of nasi lemak — with extra sambal chili on the side, thank you very much.

After all, Time Magazine recently listed the ‘supremely delicious’ dish among the world’s top 10 most healthy international breakfasts in an article that drew both disbelief and some degree of shock.

Cooked with rich coconut milk, nasi lemak contains a relatively high amount of saturated fat as well as a considerably high salt content from its sides like anchovies and fried chicken wings. While the article acknowledged the fat content, it noted that the dish is nicely balanced with lots of manganese, protein, and carbs.

If you’re raising your brows at this statement, take a look at these 12 breakfasts that will (probably) be healthier than nasi lemak. P.S. We promise they’re no less delicious!

6. Chee cheong fun from 好清香 (hao qing xiang)

Whether you’re looking for a yummy breakfast or quick snack, you can’t go wrong with some chee cheong fun (rice noodle roll). Ask for lesser sauce if you’re counting calories.

10. Soba noodles from Wheat Baumkuchen

We love our dons (a.k.a rice bowls), so why not do like the Japanese and introduce grilled fish to our morning diet as well? Buckwheat noodles are a tastier (and perhaps healthier?) option to steamed rice.

11. Kaya toast set from Yakun Kaya Toast

Soft-boiled eggs and kaya toast are a local classic and make for a satisfying breakfast – just go easy on the butter.

12. Wild rice pilaf from Afterglow by Anglow

Wild rice is said to contain twice as much protein as brown rice. Have your fill of this healthy grain with a bowl dressed with generous helpings of nuts and veggies.
