Some brands offer the popular pork jerky snack in unique flavours (pineapple bak kwa, anyone?), while some use special imported ingredients. There are also the fan-favourite brands, such as Bee Cheng Hiang and Lim Chee Guan, that have been running in Singapore for decades, those that we always return to every Chinese New Year for bak kwa we know will not disappoint us.
If you want to expand your bak kwa palate and try new brands, though, we've put together just the list for you. Rediscover your love for the smoky savoury snack through the following brands, while beating the hours-long queues during the festive period!
5. Peng Guan
New kid on the block Peng Guan launched just in 2014, but you’d be forgiven for mistaking that the brand has been running for decades. The chefs stay true to traditional tastes, seeking to bring out the natural and original flavours of the pork by making every slice from scratch. Bursting into the bak kwa scene, Peng Guan also put a unique new spin on the old recipe with the addition of premium air flown Brazilian pork. Take your pick from the Traditional, Sliced and Chilli Bak Kwa, all retailing at $25 for 500g onwards. Do note that prices increase during the Chinese New Year period.
