7 Vegan and Vegetarian Restaurants For the Health-Conscious Eater

Guilt-free indulgences that go beyond just eating meat-free

You’d be surprised how hard it is to find a vegetarian or vegan restaurant that’s actually healthy. Many people have chosen to go meat-free for health reasons, but find that a lot of the vegetarian options in Singapore are not necessarily very healthy.

To appeal to the meat-lovers, most vegan and vegetarian restaurants have included mock meat in their menu, and these meat alternatives tend to be highly processed and made of gluten and soy protein. Add the refined grains, the excess oil to enhance the flavors, sauces and desserts laden with sugar, and your meal is not very far from junk food.

We don’t think you should give up on vegetarian and vegan restaurants, though. A clean food revolution is taking over existing and new restaurants in Singapore. Whether you’re a vegetarian/vegan or you’re looking to eat healthier, here are seven restaurants to try that don’t skimp out on taste for wholesome nutrition:

Recently opened this March, Ganglamedo brings the mindfulness of Tibetan cuisine to Singapore. More than your typical vegetarian restaurant, Ganglamedo does not use mock meat and preservatives, but play up the natural flavours of organic and unprocessed plant-based ingredients. The 5-course vegetarian set ($49.90 per person) will immerse you in the traditional Tibetan-style cooking, with a hearty vegetarian hot pot as the main attraction. You can choose from a range of flavourful broths, like King Oyster Mushroom and Hot and Sour. A must-try dish from the a la carte menu is the chewy Sesame Mochi Bread ($8). Surrounded by intricate wood furniture in a cozy setting, the wholesome meal at Ganglamedo will nourish you from mind to body.
