There is more to Japan than just the glittering neon signboard-studded Tokyo. Other cities in other prefectures of Japan deserve a visit too, with each boasting its own character and specialities.

Day 1 to Day 4

First, in Chitose, you will also get to tour the Ikeda Wine Castle to understand how Tokachi Wine is made and sold. Next, stroll along Ainu Village in Akankohan and see the museum showcasing traditional Ainu crafts, clothes and daily utensils.

You will also get to see Iozan, a mountain with steaming vents, then visit Mashu Lake. This lake has the world record for water clarity with a visibility of 35m.

You can even get up close and personal with the Hokkaido foxes at the Kita Kitsune Fox Farm before moving on to Sounkyo for the night.

Day 5 to Day 9

The next morning, you’ll visit the picturesque Ginaga and Ryusei Falls and the Biei Potato No Oka to see the quaint potato village. The highlight of the day will be the Furano Floral Farm where you can enjoy the beautiful seasonal flowers in bloom such as tulips, poppies, roses and sunflowers, depending on when you are there.

If you want to do a spot of shopping, head to the Chitose Mitsui Factory Outlet Mall for over 100 international brands retailing at a reasonable price. After, you’ll arrive at Sapporo’s Susukino to experience the vibrant night life there.

Drive up to the famous Ishiya Chocolate Factory for a real-life Charlie and Chocolate Factory experience.

The Russian-style monument, the Tokeidai Clock Tower built in 1878, is also a must-see. You will also explore the renowned Sapporo Underground Shopping Mall and Tanukikoji Shopping Street, and shop at the Sapporo Station Shopping Arcade which houses Japanese department store Daimaru.

You will also get to walk around the sulphurous boiling pond known as Hell Valley before proceeding for fruit picking and ice cream making. Take postcard worthy images at Lake Toya, where beautiful virgin forests surround.

Visit the nearby Bear Ranch, where you can feed the 180 bears that reside inside. Your last two days will be spent in Hakodate exploring The Goryoukaku Tower, the Trappist Monastery, and enjoying the spectacular night view of Hakodate from a cable car.
Japan Airlines, Singapore Airlines and TransAsia all have flights to and from Hokkaido.
