How One Man Scored A AU$23,000 Flight Experience For Just AU$103

Sam Huang, the owner of topmiles.com, went on a flight of a lifetime on board Etihad’s A380

Let’s face it, flying economy is not exactly a fun experience. Miserable legroom, tasteless food, and shrinking seat widths have made it less-than-pleasant.

One guy was lucky enough to skip all this by redeeming 60,000 AAdvantage miles to fly from Sydney to the Maldives via Abu Dhabi on board Etihad’s Airbus A380.

Instead of a regular economy seat, Sam Huang, the owner of travel website topmiles.com, opted for a seat in the First Apartment.

Each First Apartment is equipped with an individual convertible sofa for sleeping, a full sized vanity mirror and a swivel 27-inch LCD TV.

But that’s not all, the lucky traveller also had a chance to spend some time in an even more luxurious space – The Residence.

The Residence has not one, not two but three separate areas for guests to relax in during their flight. This includes a living room, an ensuite shower room and the world’s first truly private room that has a full sized double bed.

The living room has a 32-inch flat screen TV while the bedroom has a 27-inch TV that will allow you to watch the latest movie releases in bed.

As for food, guests of both the First Apartment and The Residence can order as many dishes as they wish from the a la carte menu. Guests are also served Bollinger Grande Annee 2005 Champagne, which retails at around AU$100 a bottle.

In case you were thinking of trying these services out for yourself, The Residence is only available for flights to and from London, New York and Sydney. Prices start from S$35,000.

As for the First Apartment, a one-way flight from Singapore to Abu Dhabi costs about S$6,000.
