#WeekenderTries: Surgical Eye Bag Removal in Singapore

In the new year of 2021, I always wished to give my mom a more meaningful present!

My mom, Mdm Pu’s eye bags have always bothered her in the past decade or so. I  had always wanted to get her to treat it for a long time but was caught with lots of other mundane matters. Finally, to start 2021 with a bang, I decided to get rid of her problematic eyebags once and for all. After much deliberation,  we choose to have it treated at The Clifford Surgery. I think this is definitely the best Chinese New Year gift for her! I can see it from her eyes!

The celebrity clinic in Singapore offers both surgical and non-surgical eye bag removal procedures. As my mom (Mdm Pu) wished for a long-term and possibly permanent solution, she opted for the scarless eye bag removal surgery. For someone, who is so afraid of going under the knife, she decided to choose the surgical option. Nonetheless, it is after a long and concise consultation with Dr. Timothy Shim.

While we always thought eye bags are just loose skin, Dr Timothy Shim explained that eye bags are formed when excess fats are collected in the lower eyelid skin. To make matter worse, this can be worsened with age as more fat tend to collect under the eyes when the skin under the eyes tend to loosen and sag with age.

Of course, there are also other causes of eye bags that may include:
– Genes and hereditary effects
– Water retention
– Pseudo Eye Bags from prominent orbicularis oculi muscles (muscles around the eyes)

Scarless eye bag removal surgery, also known as Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty which Mdm Pu did, is a type of blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). It is to effectively reduce and remove eye bags with no visible scars. This is achieved via an incision made on the inner surface of the lower eyelid.

The entire procedure took about an hour to complete. More importantly, the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia so there is practically no pain or discomfort felt. Mdm Pu was able to return to most daily activities after just a few days of rest.

She was required to go back for a review 3 days after the surgery for a fresh set of tapes to prevent infection and expedite the healing process, while the stitches were removed 5 days later. Mild bruising can still be seen after the 5th day but it was nothing major as the eyes can be hidden behind a pair of fashionable shades.

The Clinic’s pleasant atmosphere and amiable staff, together with Dr. Shim’s patience and professional explanation, help ease Mdm Pu’s anxiety during her entire visit.

Mrs Pu has since recovered completely from the operation. Take a look at her BEFORE and AFTER photos below:

Mdm Pu admitted that she felt much younger after bidding farewell to her 20-year old eye bags.
