Practicality and simplicity sometimes best for a home

This home by Neu Konceptz does not seek to impress as much as it seeks to relax. It is, after all, first and foremost for its owners and not visitors.

The palette is clean and easy on the eyes, making it a home that will endure through the years.

Why change something if it ain’t broke? That was the ethos behind the design of the kitchen. A pristine white kitchen is not uncommon, but it is only because it works so well for most families.

Here, the kitchen, though small, feels bright and clean. Details like handle-less cabinets also add to the streamlined look.

Pastel Punch

Colour is a great way to spruce up a room without having to spend too much money. In one of the bedrooms, the homeowners took a risk with sky blue wardrobe doors.

The risk certainly paid off with the room looking fresh and cheery.

Surprises and design frills were not part of the project brief. Instead, the owners wanted a home that offers casual, down-to-earth living. For this, the designers from Neu Konceptz toned things down with a simple neutral palette.

Knock Out!

When space is spare, a little reorganisation can go a long way. In this case, the original boundaries of the kitchen were changed.

The kitchen entrance was shifted back to allow for a larger living and dining area. At the same time, the refrigerator and built-in ovens were positioned right beside the dining area. Though unusual, the configuration works, and certainly gives the sense of a larger home.

Rest Easy

The master bedroom is a lair of warm comfort thanks to well-considered materials and colours. The timber floor has a rich, walnut tone, while the wall behind the bed has been clothed in a rich, khaki wall covering.

Details are kept minimal, save for a slit in the wall to accommodate a small, mirror-backed ledge. Proportions also count with the homeowners who brought the bed low to the ground for a more casual feel.

Quiet Time

One of the bedrooms has been converted into a practical study. A customised study unit has been incorporated into the space, with ample overhead cabinets and a slim desk on which to work.

As with the rest of the apartment, frills are eschewed in favour of practicality.
