Your beauty solutions are closer to home than you know. With more local skincare and makeup brands popping up in the market, we now have more options than ever. Looking for something organic or fuss-free? These brands have one trait in common — they’re made to suit Asian skin. In our series, Local Beauty Heroes, we take a closer look at a few of these homegrown brands.

Faux Fayc pays close attention how their products perform in our tropics.

Faux Fayc, pronounced ‘Fake Face’, is a home-grown beauty brand with a vision to lend confidence to women by allowing them to build an alter ego with makeup.

The beauty brand pays close attention how their products perform in our tropics. For instance, the Fauxless Mattifying Mousse Foundation is a lightweight foundation that performs well in humid weather.

1. Hi Yuan! What inspired you to start the beauty brand? And why?

After working for international beauty brands, we started Faux Fayc as we were inspired to create a mascara that was suitable for Asian lashes.

Through our prior experience, we realised that many international brands only made mascaras with white fibres, which caters to the caucasian market. Thankfully, the black fibre mascara which we created, did extremely well online.

Since then we’ve been focusing our efforts on expanding our product range. We’ll also be opening a retail shop this June!

2. What does your brand stand for? And why?

Faux actually stands for fake in French and Fayc is an alternative spelling of the word face.

Hence, Faux Fayc essentially stands for ‘Fake Face’. This is because we hope to be able to build an alter ego for women through our products and lend confidence to them.

Attain pretty, matte lips with the Fauxstix Matte Liquid.

3. Share some skincare/beauty tips with our readers.

Try airing your regular mascara for 10-15 seconds before applying it on your lashes. Some mascaras are more wet than others and this will help to speed up the drying process, so that your lashes will not weigh down and droop after application.

Curl your lashes in three parts: Curl from base first, mid lashes and then the tip. This will help them last the entire day.

If you urgently need to exfoliate your lips and don’t have any exfoliator products with you, simply use a soft toothbrush. Just remember to moisturise your lips afterwards.

We love: Fauxlash Mascara Duo ($38), Fauxstix Matte Liquid ($35)

Always wanted the doll-eyed effect of falsies without the discomfort? Try the Fauxlash Mascara Duo, which consists of transplanting gel and natural fibres to help your lashes look thicker and longer.

The transplanting gel has a stickier and thicker consistency compared to normal mascaras, as it contains collagen to protect and strengthen your lashes.

If you’re looking for a matte lipstick that’d last you through lunch and beyond, the Fauxstix Matte Liquid won’t disappoint.

Its precise brush tip also eliminates the need for a lip liner, allowing you to define your lip shape easily. Best of all, there’re 12 shades to choose from!
