Easy, breezy methods to purify your pores and banish nasty blackheads

By Samantha Francis

Beauty products come through our doors each day, but rarely do we encounter two similar but equally power packed items we can’t help but rave about.

Here are two clay-textured masks, both targeted to banish your pore woes in an easy, breezy manner. If enlarged and clogged pores are the bane of your life, these two products are must-haves in your arsenal.

FANCL Pore Cleansing Pack

If you’re looking for an all-in-one home care solution for your pesky pore problems, consider the FANCL Pore Care Series.

Consisting of FANCL Pore Cleansing Pack, Pore Essence and Yogurt Facial Treatment, the powerful trio aims to help users attain clear and oil-free pores.

Verdict: The Pore Cleansing Pack ($32 per box of eight) comes in nifty sachets, making them perfect for use even on travels. Said to be suitable for oily and combination skin, the product penetrates deeply into the pores to absorb dirt and skin impurities.

After cleansing my skin, I applied the grey coloured, clay-like mask all over my skin, massaging a little at my T-zone. The product was dense and thick, with a smooth texture. Plus, one pack contained more than enough for a single masking session.

After leaving the product on for 5 minutes, I washed it off with warm water. The pores on my nose looked significantly cleaner, while my skin felt moisturised thanks to the combination of Fresh Moist Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid in the product. Would I use this again? It’s a resounding yes!

Available at FANCL’s counter located at Level 1, Isetan Scotts, Shaw House, 350 Orchard Road

innisfree Volcanic Clay Mousse

As one of innisfree’s best-selling products, the Super Volcanic Clay Mousse ($29) has been lauded by beauty editors and celebrities alike for its pore cleansing ability.

Not only does it eliminate sebum, fine dust and impurities, the product also features ingredients like exfoliating AHAs and BHAs to rid dead skin cells.

Verdict: First off, be warned that the pump dispenser emits a rather generous amount with a single pump — I soon learnt to push the dispenser only halfway for better control.

Light grey and fluffy with a micro-clay texture, the mousse product glided across my cleansed skin easily, visibly filling up my pores.

Its hero ingredient, the Super Volcanic Cluster, features cellulose and walnut shell extract to soak up impurities so as to absorb sebum and rid pores effectively.

The mask can be left on for up to 15 minutes before being rinsed off. After which, my pores were noticeably smaller and on the whole, my skin tone looked more even as well. Consider me impressed!

Available at innisfree stores. This August, customers will receive a limited-edition Super Pore Tightening Mask (not for sale) with purchase of a Super Volcanic Clay Mousse Mask.
