Parent-led Community Sets Record

This record-setting motion took place at the Rise & Shine Carnival 2015, at The Float @Marina Bay. The event was organised by Rise & Shine, a parent-led community with the support of Sport Singapore.

The pledge took form with children and parents alike, bearing temporary tattoos on their arms with the tag line “Dirt is good” to show support for an active and healthier lifestyle, despite the prevalence of a sedentary lifestyle in Singapore.

Promoting Healthy Physical Development

Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Health, graced the event. Healthy physical development for children was promoted through a line-up of activity booths at the event such as kids’ soccer try-outs, obstacle courses, bouncy castles and much more.

In addition, as part of the movement’s aim to give kids a healthy start to the day, the event kicked off with a healthy breakfast picnic segment for families.

Physical Well-Being for Sharper Mind & Confidence

Active outdoor play with the goal of increasing a child’s heart rate and perspiration is highly endorsed by medical professionals for children. The Health Promotion Board recommends 60 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous physical activity for primary school goers and at least 180 minutes of structured and unstructured activities for pre-schoolers*.

Dr Chong Shang Chee, Head of Child Development Unit of the National University Hospital, confirms the notion that being physically active not only supports the physical well-being of a child but also promotes a sharper mind, healthier eyesight and self-confidence too.
