Experience adventure at sea as you revisit Singapore’s early years that established it as a port hub, and learn about our thriving and vibrant maritime industry

A day of fun-filled excitement awaits you and your family at the Singapore Maritime Gallery, absolutely free of charge!

Opened a little over a year ago, this gallery boasts a large and rich collection of the history of Singapore’s oldest trade industry; the maritime industry.

A large part of the state of livelihood that Singaporeans enjoy today can be attributed to the lucrative and thriving sea trade industry that has been ongoing since time immemorial.

The Singapore Maritime Gallery encapsulates all the information of our seafaring history, through the beautiful displays and high-tech attractions, to better educate the public on the maritime industry.

In a Sea of Change

The maritime industry has seen a large amount of development and changes from the time of Sir Stamford Raffles. Be inspired by a vibrant and dynamic industry through an overview video of the maritime industry only available at the gallery.

Get an insight into the workings of cargo terminals, the diversity of the different sectors and the progressiveness of the global business that is Singapore’s maritime industry.

Be amazed with what goes on in the background that showcases Singapore as one of the leading ports around the world.

A Cruise through History

Embark upon an experiential journey into the past of Singapore’s sea trade and find out what makes the industry tick. Discover the important milestones in Singapore’s transformation from a simple fishing village into a major port and International Maritime Centre.

See how the traders of old used to package their goods and learn about their lifestyles and how people settled in Singapore to become the forefathers of our young nation.

Pick up more nuggets of information along the way as you journey on this exciting voyage through the bedrock of our maritime industry.

The Sea in Our Lives

Contrary to what you may believe, a large amount of goods we get in Singapore are actually transported via the sea, and not by air. Imagine our lives without basic commodities such as rice, oil and even medical supplies!

At the Singapore Maritime Gallery, learn how Maritime Singapore brings us our daily necessities through the interactive “connectivity” table attraction and how it is essential for life to go on in Singapore. Learn more about the strategic position that Singapore is in along the global trade routes, which made Singapore into the bustling sea port that she is today.

Singapore as a Major Hub Port

Step into a 20-foot container and learn how Singapore stays at the forefront of technological innovations to be a major hub port in the world.

Get up close and personal with the fascinating world of Singapore’s world-class port operations unveiled on a spectacular ship model, complete with exciting interactive and multimedia displays. Engage in available hands-on attractions to better understand the workings of a port hub.

Have a Shipping Good Time

The key attraction at the Gallery has to be the Ship Bridge Simulator, which lets you play ship captain for a day. Try it out and experience steering, navigating and controlling different vessels in Singapore’s port waters. It’s not as easy as it sounds!

It may not be a battleship but spend a few minutes on the simulator and you will get a better understanding of the immense responsibility of a ship captain and navigator, especially when dealing with the crowded port of Singapore.

Also available at the gallery is the Vessel Traffic Information System (VTIS). Visit the exhibit and learn about the latest technologies used to manage traffic in one of the world’s busiest ports.

This vital role in monitoring the traffic of our port waters will give you a deeper insight into, and respect for, the operations behind our country’s successful port.

Engineering our Industry

It’s not all about the container trade when it comes to the Maritime industry, as the offshore and marine engineering sector is also vital.

Singapore is a world leader in rig-building and a leading centre for ship repairs and conversions, of which you will be able to see miniature displays at the Gallery.

Discover the engineering marvels in building the mega structures of oil rigs and the intricacies and details required of ship conversions.

A Voyage for the Young

If that’s not enough of a reason for you to check the Singapore Maritime Gallery out, keep the fun going for your little ones at the specially-designed “Fun at Sea!” children’s corner.

Enjoy the panoramic view from the playground of the rooftop terrace as your little ones race around and educate themselves about the history of Singapore’s port through a fun and interactive process.
