Textures 2019: 7 Highlights You Should Attend At The Local Literary Festival

Celebrate Sing Lit with some of our best in the scene

Did you know that March is designated as National Reading Month in the United States? Though it's not a thing in Singapore, the folks behind Textures may be planning to make it so. The literary festival launched to much success in March 2018, and is making its return this year from 7 to 10 March at The Arts House. Co-commissioned by The Arts House and the #BuySinglit movement, and supported by the National Arts Council, Textures is all about celebrating Singapore literature. This year, the festival explores a range of emotions that words express through the theme of "Love and Loss (and some things in between)."

The programme is packed with so many exciting performances, exhibitions, panel discussions and creative workshops, some taking place at the same time - how do we choose which ones to attend? To help you decide, we've picked out seven events we're most excited for. Call up your friends for a lit-terrific weekend, and don't forget to support our authors and discover new reads at the #BuySingLit Book Bazaar, happening at the Arts House Gallery from 8 to 10 March.

4. Room of Love and Loss (and some things in between)

Take an intimate peek into the world of your favourite Singapore artists by discovering what they hold dear. The photo gallery known as Room of Love and Loss (and some things in between), will display various objects of great meaning to the local literary community, including the featured artists at the festival. If you’re lucky, you might just catch poet Cyril Wong, art collective Osmosis, or Malay language poet-performers weave the magic of poetry and music together in the room, kicking the sentiments in the room up the further notch.

The event will be held at Gallery I and Visitor Services Foyer, from 8 to 10 March. Admission is free.
