Remember the glittering Future World exhibition over at the ArtScience Museum? Now, the National Museum of Singapore will have an equally stunning installation by the same team that did Future World.

On 10 Dec, the museum’s Glass Rotunda is reopening after two years of renovation works and will soon showcase two new permanent installations: “Singapore, Very Old Tree” by acclaimed local photographer and artist, Robert Zhao; and “Story of the Forest”, a larger-than-life interactive digital art installation created by Japanese digital art collective TeamLab.

“Story of the Forest” is reportedly the most challenging digital artwork installation created by TeamLab to date. The installation will transform 69 drawings into animated illustrations that stretch 15m high up to the glass ceiling. These animations will come to life and interact with visitors as they make their way down an 80m spiral walkway.

At the base of the Glass Rotunda is the “Singapore, Very Old Tree” exhibit by renowned local photographer and artist, Robert Zhao. Inspired by one of the oldest postcards in the National Archives of Singapore depicting an unspecified tree from 1904, it will showcase images of trees around Singapore and highlight intimate stories of each.

This exhibit was first commissioned for the Singapore Memory Project last year as part of the SG50 celebrations.

The new installations will be open at the revamped Glass Rotunda from 10 Dec.
