As I compiled this mouthwatering list, I couldn’t help but imagine Japanese sushi chefs raising a brow at these seemingly bastardised creations.
While a sushi omakase (a meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef) meal is a veritable art form in itself, these creative incarnations in the form of donuts, cakes and even cupcakes are no doubt eye-catching and who can deny, pretty darn delicious as well.
These dishes make use of mandatory ingredients like cooked vinegared rice, raw sliced fish and more — each recreated in an unusual, contemporary manner.
