If the aroma of fresh brew invigorates your senses, then you’re likely no stranger to the burgeoning coffee scene in Singapore.

Cravings for a quality cup of joe can be easily satisfied with the likes of household brands like Owl, home-grown micro-roasters like Nylon Coffee Roasters and famed cafes like The Coffee Academics, which hails from Hong Kong.

Coffee lovers will be pleased to know that the latest coffee company to enter this vibrant scene is also Italy’s oldest.

The family-owned Caffe Vergnano has opened its 100th outlet at the South Beach dining enclave, which will seduce visitors with the charms of its modern Italian décor and quality brews.

As you enter Caffe Vergnano 1882, a timeline of their heritage greets you — an illustrious history, which began from 1882. What started out as a single shop, eventually morphed into over 100 coffee shops and a coffee plantation in Kenya.

Priding themselves on brewing real Italian espresso, the coffee company uses a time-consuming slow-roasting method (18-22 minute cycles), so that the flavours and aromas of the beans are evenly roasted.

A further testimony of this dedication; each origin’s beans are roasted separately to accentuate their full quality.

If you’re looking to order just one drink, make it the 1882 Espresso.

True Italian coffee

If you’re looking to order just one drink, make it the 1882 Espresso ($3.50). Full-flavoured and roasty, with a pleasant roundness once it hits your tongue, this espresso is said to be every coffee purists’ dream.

Those with a penchant for cocoa ought to try the Bicerin (from $6), a traditional concoction of espresso and cocoa topped with cream. With its origins from Turin, Italy, this luxurious drink will delight anyone with its smooth richness, although we’d recommend taking it easy on the swirled blob of cream.

If you fancy taking home a taste of Caffe Vergnano, consider their exclusive 1882 Blend. Top quality Arabica beans from Central America are singularly roasted and blended with an Arabic “Sidamo” of Ethiopia. What you get is a brew with complex aroma and slight hints of flora.

Drink up and dine in

Apart from perking visitors up with their exquisite coffee, the cafe also offers a menu that’s packed with hearty eats like Ravioli with Tomato and Basil Sauce, Steak and Olive Pie, and even desserts like the Speculoos Cheese Cake.

For its dedication to perfecting the espresso, Caffe Vergnano is certainly worth a visit for any coffee lover.
