5 Restaurants In Galicia, Spain We Dined At And Left Very Much Impressed

Wine, cheese, pork and seafood – what’s there not to love?

But of course, we obliged ourselves to the fabulous gastronomic scene during our trip in Galacia, Spain. With this part of Spain located right next to Atlantic ocean, Galicia abounds with seafood treasures such as octopus, fish and other shellfish jewels. Poultry is another highlight from this northern part of Spain, pork and beef in particular, of which the livestock is all reared in the country. Since the source is right here at home, Galicia’s cuisine, aside from being wholesome and diverse, is more affordable as compared to the big cities of Madrid and Barcelona. Here are five restaurants that best exemplify the very best of Galician dining.

1. Hotel Roma Restaurante

Somewhere in Sarria, there’s a hotel called Hotel Roma that comes with its own in-house restaurant. Many have waxed lyrical about it. Unassuming it may be, the restaurant aptly puts traditional Galician fare in a glorious light. If you’re still at the head of your vacation in Galicia, we say make a beeline for the meats and leave the seafood affair for another restaurant. Cooked on hot coals in full view, steaks are grilled to a bloody perfection, as shown in our medium rare veal steak at only 15 euros?! Another highlight we must speak of is the celtic pork, or Cedro Celta in Spanish.  Galicia’s pigs are on a strict chestnut diet, which allows a gradual growing process for the yield of fattier and more flavourful pork. And there’s no better way than having the celtic pork cured, and on a slice of sour dough bread here at Hotel Roma Restaurante.
