Evoke Nostalgia With These 4 Dishes From Sinpopo

Savour the taste of home with modernised local favourites

Started in 2014, Sinpopo could be considered one of the forerunners of creative mod-sin (Modern Singaporean) food, at least for the cafe scene.

Their shop house cafe, located in the historical Joo Chiat neighbourhood, sets the scene for honest-to-goodness and comforting home-style food.

Here are four dishes to try:

1. Sinpopo Crab Bee Hoon, $16

If crab bee hoon brings to mind the greasy, wok-hei laden version so often served at zichar restaurants, you’re not alone.

Sinpopo offers an equally decadent and comforting rendition (left of picture) in the form of silky smooth bee hoon in a rich and flavourful broth prepared with salted egg yolk and crab meat.

The bee hoon is topped with chunks of deshelled Sri Lankan crab meat, which bursts with the natural sweetness of the crustacean.
