Sumiya’s chunky Fresh Bluefin Tuna Sashimi is shaped after a Western steak

Restaurant: Sumiya Charcoal Grill Izakaya

Location: Orchard Central, 181 Orchard Road #12-02, Singapore 238896

This dish made me raise a brow. For a minute the place felt like your regular steakhouse, except that instead of serving a mean steak, they serve a shapely tuna. The best parts of the tuna lies in the Chutoro (middle fat) and the Toro (fatty tuna) but as a suggestion, always start with Akami (lean meat) so that you would be able to slowly savor the heightened quality as you proceed to the next part of the meat.

The prized Grilled Kinki at Takumi Kacyo is their star dish, and rightly so

Restaurant: Takumi Kacyo

Location: 2 Keppel Bay Vista, #02-01, Marina at Keppel Bay, Singapore 098382

I cannot stress enough on this – you have to try Takumi Kacyo’s grilled cod fish. This dish is wonderfully fresh and intensely seasoned. The skin of the fish was cripsy and salty, while the flesh was soft and delectable. The waiter recommends a dash of lemon but I could not bring myself to even slightly alter the fish’s original taste – it truly is that fantastic by itself. Remember to scoop out the bits under the fin!

The Tandoor Platter at SHER is an impressive, delicious spread

Restaurant: SHER

Location: 25 Sembawang Road, Singapore 779079

SHER spun a surprise on the usual North Indian food. High up on my recommendations was the grilled Chicken Shashlik. Perhaps it was because it came after the malasa chicken, but it is no fight for the main course. The grilled components of the dish worked fine, even though the chicken was a little too tough. I would have preferred more of the soft, delectable chicken from their masala star.

Are you ready for a do-it-yourself raclette dinner at Cafe Gavroche?

Restaurant: Cafe Gavroche

Location: 9 Tras St, Singapore 079005

Upon being seated, we saw a quaint Tefal Raclette on every table. We were having no authentic French dinners by Paris chefs – we were having French dinners prepared with a local flavor! We were given a side of quail eggs, cheese, a meat spread and a pot of soft potatoes .I was cluelessly slicing my potatoes and wrapping them in cheese and ham. The end product turned out pretty tasty!

Momiji proudly presents their idea of a true oyster feast for a king. Pictured above are seven different oysters prepared in seven different ways. Do you like your oyster doused in cheese? Have a Oyster Lobster Mayo Yaki. Do you prefer your seafood exotic? Pick their Japanese Apple Dressing Oyster. Do you want a hand in your own dinner preparation? Cue their Hot Plate Oyster.

The Roasted Chicken, Grape & Apricot salad at Foodology Fresh was a refreshing twist

Restaurant: Foodology Fresh

Location: The URA Centre, 45 Maxwell Road #01-02, Singapore 069118

Various items of the menu fulfill five health categories; vegetarian, sugar-free, lactose-free, gluten-free and no trans-fat. The Roasted Chicken, Grape and Apricot Salad would prove to be a refreshing start. Crunchy mesclun and arugula are accompanied by roasted chicken chunks, apricots, grapes and Spanish onions. A drizzle of white wine vinaigrette enlivens the salad mix.

Atrium Restaurant’s Mussel Otah Otah is an interesting fusion of seafood with local fare

Location: Level 4, 317 Outram Rd, Singapore 169075

The memorable dish at Atrium Restaurant is the Mussel Otah Otah. It is a creative mussel meets otah dish, tasting as tantalizing as it sounds. The Peranakan delicacy stuck to its roots, with its strong combination of fish paste, chili and spices coming out fragrantly in every bite. The mussel was admittedly ordinary next to the true-to-local-flavour otah, but together they worked well.

The Christmas Cheesecakes at Geek Café prove to be a good stand-in for the traditional log cake

The most dangerous dish of all, the Thinly Sliced Fugu Sashimi at FUKU promises to be safe for consumption

Restaurant: FUKU Fine Fugu Kaiseki Restaurant

We were served the thinly sliced Fugu sashimi, once referred to as gun-powder because of its instantaneous death if not prepared right. The thin slices were presented in a blossom atop an intricately presented on a patterned plate, making it a beautiful translucent yet detailed arrangement. The accompanying condiments are much-needed enhancers to the otherwise limply bland fugu.

Pie Face doles out pies in a multitude of flavours – guess the flavour behind each face!

Pie Face doles out pies in a multitude of flavours. Flavours that are available in the Singapore stores include Chunky Steak; Chicken and Mushroom; Thai Chicken Curry; and Tandoori Vegetable. These savoury pies come in both regular and mini sizes. The mini pies are priced starting from $3.00 each. Different playful facial expressions are featured on the pastry crusts!
